Congregational Life

The Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour is a diverse, welcoming congregation.  

Christian Education - The Cathedral offers the following programs: 
  • Children's Sunday School meets downstairs in the Guild House at 10:00 a.m. For more information, contact Chris Rodewald (507-334-7732). No Sunday School during the summer. Other youth activities are scheduled throughout the school year.
  • Adult Forum meets year-round in the Cloister at 8:45 a.m. Currently we are reading the book Jesus for the Non Religious by John Shelby Spong. We read a little bit each week, and a lively discussion follows.

Prayer Chain - If you wish to have prayers said for friends or relatives, please leave a message for Chris and Margo Ries at the Cathedral office (507-334-7732).

Pastoral Care - This visitation team consists of clergy and trained lay persons. Holy Communion can be brought to homebound persons upon request. If you would like a visit, or know of someone who does, please call the Cathedral office (507-334-7732).

Outreach - This team supports existing and emerging service and mission projects.Contact Jess Mortensen at the Cathedral office (507-334-7732) for more information. Currently the Cathedral is involved with the following organizations: 
  • Community Cathedral Cafe - serving a free meal each Tuesday evening 5 PM to 6:30 PM. All are welcome.
  • Full Belly, Inc. - serving free meals Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings 5 PM to 7 PM. All are welcome.
  • St. Vincent de Paul
  • Faribault Area Food Shelf
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rice County
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Seasonal Workers Ministry (San José Obrero, in Montgomery, MN)
  • Episcopal Community Services of Minnesota
  • Food for the Poor
  • Salvation Army
  • Episcopal Center

Women's Guild - All women of the congregation are members of the Guild of the Good Shepherd. The Guild actively supports church life through activities such as serving luncheons for special events, participating in mission projects, and conducting fund raisers. The co-presidents of the Women's Guild are Marlene Sammon and June Muchow. Please call the Cathedral office (507-334-7732) for further information.

Altar Guild - The Altar Guild prepares the Cathedral for public worship. To make a gift of memorial flowers or for further information, contact Carol Greeney at the Cathedral office (507-334-7732).

Evangelism - The goal of this committee is to share our faith and life in Christ with those seeking a church home. These Web pages are just one of the many projects we are involved in. Our motto is "You are always welcome at The Episcopal Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour." Contact Mary Lou Lockwood at the Cathedral office (507-334-7732)for more information.

Tours - Many groups and individuals interested in the First Cathedral's historic significance visit us each year. Tours are available during office hours (Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to noon), after Sunday services, and by appointment. Please call the office beforehand at 507-334-7732. Free brochures on the Cathedral's history are available in the tract racks. Gift and souvenir items are available for sale. Tours are free, but donations for the Cathedral's upkeep are gratefully accepted. The Cathedral is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
